Stargazer Lilies

I woke at 6.30am, and by the time I’d got up, fed the dog and collected the newspaper from the gatepost I was wide awake, so I resisted lounging and got organised.

It’s another fantastic day. Moist and dewy with a clear blue sky. Not a single cloud.

I’ve picked four huge Stargazer lily flowers and arranged them in a flat white bowl, cutting the stems short so they float. They are fully opened out, 6 to 7 inches across, deep crimson and magenta with fiery orange stamens.
The perfume is magnificent and fills the whole kitchen.

I had a home-grown fig with my granola and yogurt to set me up, then went out and gardened until 9.30 and it had begun to feel warm.
