Canada Geese
The Canada geese returned to our pond last weekend. Not just our usual pair, or even three as last year – but six!
The largest, most dominant one stands sentry over the others and honks and hisses defensively when I approach the pond. Today there were nine geese, but the one in charge didn’t take kindly to the influx and saw them off.
The six flew over at 4.30 as the sun was going down and the garden looked hazy.
A beautiful and impressive sight.
The fantastic weather we’ve enjoyed since the middle of February has continued. Frosty mornings, clear blue skies, brilliant sunshine and still days. The air is crisp and fresh, and invites us out into the garden despite jobs inside.
This is bliss. Essential chores in the house do get done: design projects, washing, ironing, cooking, cleaning; but the priority is to get out into the sunshine and start work.
All this lovely weather means our garden jobs and new projects are pretty advanced. Very satisfying.
New ideas and plans are coming along fine. This is the right time to pursue these and to indulge ourselves with extra details: dream a little.
In a normal season it’s a matter of doing the essentials, weather permitting. We have created a monster and there is a pressure to the work because inevitably the weather will break. So the more we can achieve, the better, and additionally there is immense pleasure to be had in doing it.
