The Grass Garden – Initial Ideas
ProjectsIt’s January, and I’m staying in the warm and planning a new area where the horrible above ground swimming pool was.
It’s a reasonable sized plot, about 5 metres square, in the corner of the orchard and quite near to the house. It has been well hedged to disguise the pool, because though very popular, it was a total eyesore and thankfully got blown to bits in a gale.
The new garden, so close to the house, will become a secret space with the calming sound of the breeze through the foliage as we enjoy our morning coffee.
At least, that’s the plan.
This new secluded spot will make an interesting private garden, sheltered from the strong winds, and looking inwards – not outwards at the view. We’ve no money for hard landscaping or plants, so as usual we’ll be resourceful and use imagination and any materials we can find around. It will be our usual solution of creating something out of nothing. More fun, more satisfying than having grandiose ideas and paying someone else to realise them.
In time, dramatic planting of grasses and bamboos nicked from other parts of the garden will cost nothing and hopefully disguise any bodges.
