The Cheltenham Waterbuck Caravan

I can’t remember when we first got this caravan. I do remember going to look at it. A sad neglected thing, covered in green mould in the corner of a garden nearby. I must have been going through one of my rehoming phases, having progressed from ancient sofas and abandoned dogs.

The Cheltenham caravan which dated from 1969 was, underneath the mould, completely original, apart from missing the towing mechanism. We had a friend with a low loader so transportation wasn’t a problem. Best of all, it was completely free of charge!

We thought it could be restored very easily and sited overlooking the pond. We could sleep out in it on warm summer nights. It would be like having a holiday in the country.

About The Sanctuary Project

The Sanctuary project was pure creative indulgence on a massive scale, initially based on limited knowledge and naive enthusiasm. The idea was to make something from nothing with a combination of plenty of energy and no money.

In a broad sense, the project encompasses designing and making, and includes art, textiles and pattern making inspired by the garden itself.

It is a joy to watch things come to life.
