Initial Introductions: Beech, Birch, Hazel, Prunus, Field Maple, Hawthorn, Sorbus, Sycamore, Ash, Aspen, Chestnut, Holly, Hornbeam, Willow

Bare Rooted Slips from the Tree Nursery: Silver birch, Lime, Salix alba Britzensis, Alder, Rowan, Populus alba, Dogwoods: red and green stemmed, Viburnum opulus, Viburnum mariesii, Viburnum tinus, Euonymus, Rosa rugosa Hypericum

Small Trees in Pots: Copper Beech, Red Hazel, Quercus coccinea, Crab Apples, Walnut, Whitebeams, Tulip Tree, Taxodium, Balsam Poplar, Amelanchier, Picea breweriana, Hawthorns, Rhys typhinus

Hedges: Privet: already there. Blackthorn: thick and prickly. Good cover for small birds. Lime: a low curved hedge to break up the design near the Dome. Leylandii: not an imaginative choice, but dense and fast growing around the orchard.

About The Sanctuary Project

The Sanctuary project was pure creative indulgence on a massive scale, initially based on limited knowledge and naive enthusiasm. The idea was to make something from nothing with a combination of plenty of energy and no money.

In a broad sense, the project encompasses designing and making, and includes art, textiles and pattern making inspired by the garden itself.

It is a joy to watch things come to life.
