Beginnings: Optimism and Determination
A Sanctuary PlantedWhen I look at old photos and videos I am incredulous at our naiive belief and confidence that we could make a garden out of this huge empty space. Even the existing garden around the house was bigger than our previous garden by a long way. Plenty big enough for any sane experienced gardener. We were neither.
Yet, surely, we reasoned, based on our seven year’s efforts planning and renovating our urban garden, where we had optimistically believed we’d learned a few basics, plus encouragement from friends who were generous with advice – this project was absolutely do-able??
Looking back, how we ever thought we could achieve this, is beyond me. I am so glad we did. It was the right decision and ultimately it was a combination of optimism and determination, plus years of enjoyable, strenuous work that developed our sanctuary into the kind of space we had pictured all those years before.
